Go and make disciples

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.  (2 Timothy 2:2)

Progress

With the graduation of the 2010 and 2012 classes and their families, we have completed the first three stages of our long term plan, are now in Stage 4.  Click here to view the strategy.
These thirteen families and one single man who have been trained at our jungle site have embraced the vision of returning to their villages and are now discipling men and women, duplicating what they have learned ... teaching by their example.

They:
- have planted 13 new churches
- are pastoring a total of 1,240 church members
- are personally discipling 161 men

Our long-term strategy has been to establish an increasingly expanding network of satellite training centers throughout the Sankuru that will be able to reach the pastors in the most remote villages of Congo.

During the planning phase, we established four “foundational criteria” that we felt must be in place to insure success, not only in the stage two training, but more importantly, in stages three and four when the focus is on the training at these satellite centers.

  1. The curriculum must be simple and present basic Biblical principles in a format that does not require a high level of education.
  2. The instruction must include practical principles of personal productivity and responsibility through agriculture, animal husbandry, fishponds, and small enterprises, such as making baskets and soap.  (Pierre calls this the “Theology of Work”.)
  3. Everything that we do in phase two must be reproducible in any village, no matter how remote.
  4. There must be practical application of the Biblical principles being taught.

With these seven satellite training centers, each staffed by two trained graduates, we are now focused on the training of pastors, leaders, and families in these satellite locations who will be able to expand even deeper into the remote villages of the interior.  We are now at Stage 4, the final stage of our stratgey.
